COLLECTION GUIDELINES FOR CURBSIDE RECYCLING PROGRAM

  • Place Trash Containers at Curbside no later than 7:00 AM on the day of pickup.
  • NO commercial waste, large items, yard waste, construction debris, or hazardous waste.

CURBSIDE TRASH AND RECYCLING PROGRAM INFORMATION

  1. Curbside Trash and Recycling Program Video - Watch a short informational video (wmv) about the program; this includes a demonstration of how the new trucks handle the new containers (Windows Media Player required).

  7. Disposal of Bulky Items, Demolition Debris - The 2011 Brochure (pdf) is available with pricing for disposal of appliances, yard debris and demolition debris at either Community Recycling Center in Scarborough or Riverside Recycling in Portland.
  8. Recycling for Curbside Collection - Information is available on recyclable materials (pdf) with a list of acceptable and unacceptable materials.

NO TRASH COLLECTION ON THE FOLLOWING HOLIDAYS

  • July 4th
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day
  • New Year's Day

NOTICE: Occasionally trash collection will not be affected by these holidays. The current policy is to check our contractor's pickup schedule and then post a notice outlining any changes to residents. Public Works posts these holiday collection notices in the Scarborough Leader, The Forecaster, The Current, on town cable TV, on the Town of Scarborough's website (www.scarborough.me.us), and on signs displayed at various municipal locations.

Please check for notices regularly.

On storm days, trash will be collected (even if there is no school). Only extreme weather conditions will prevent trucks from going out.
